NMSU Board of Regents schedules virtual special meeting for June 21

The Board of Regents of New Mexico State University will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21. The meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom and will be livestreamed for public viewing at https://regents.nmsu.edu/regent-meetings/.


NMSU hosts vet science camp for regional students

For three days in May, 20 students from New Mexico and the surrounding region traveled to Las Cruces to learn about veterinary medicine and animal science at an overnight summer camp at New Mexico State University (NMSU). This event, hosted by NMSU’s Cooperative Extension Service in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, provided hands-on animal experience for 8th through 12th graders to explore career opportunities and tour facilities. In 2023, NMSU hosted a pair of similar camps.

NMSU Arrowhead Center receives grant to fund four new Sprint Accelerators

New Mexico State University has been awarded a grant that will assist Arrowhead Center in developing and deploying four Sprint Accelerators. With support from the NMSU Foundation, NMSU’s Arrowhead Center received the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico and El Paso Electric’s New Mexico Economic Development Initiative Grant.


Santa Fe County closes offices for Juneteenth observance

Santa Fe, NM—In honor of emancipation in the United States and its ideals of freedom and equity for all, Santa Fe County announces the closure of its administrative offices on Wednesday, June 19th, in observation of Juneteenth "Freedom Day."


Santa Fe County bans fireworks due to extreme drought conditions

On June 11, 2024, the Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2024-078, declaring extreme or severe drought conditions and banning the sale and use of certain fireworks in unincorporated and wildland areas in Santa Fe County.

The UNM Anderson School of Management’s Center for Responsible Entrepreneurship hosted a pitch competition on June 6 in Santa Fe, marking the conclusion of its inaugural cohort of the entrepreneur-focused Accelerator Program.

The Health, Housing & Homelessness Department is launching a 'Summer of Housing Funding' with new financing opportunities for affordable housing developers. Applications will be open in June, July, and September. The first Request for Proposals (RFP) opened on June 1, 2024, and developers have until July 1, 2024, to apply.


Las Cruces updates land development code with public review

The City of Las Cruces is undertaking an update to the City's Land Development Code. The project, Realize Las Cruces, includes regulations that govern the use and development of land within the city limits and surrounding areas in some cases.


NMSU offers flexible bachelor's degrees catering to diverse needs

Priscilla Carabajal, who grew up in Anthony, New Mexico, never considered college an option. Starting her career in corrections at age 19, she later worked for the health department and health and social services. Over the years, Carabajal has held positions with the city, county, and state.


UNM-GPS launches dashboards on pedestrian and cyclist car crash data

The University of New Mexico Geospatial and Population Studies (UNM-GPS) has launched two new dashboards aimed at examining data on crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists. Although pedestrians are involved in only about 2% of traffic crashes in New Mexico, they account for 20% of all crash-related fatalities.

Feminist Border Arts Film Festival expands program for ninth annual event

For eight years, the Feminist Border Arts Film Festival (FBAFF) at New Mexico State University has focused on short films. In its ninth year, the festival will also screen feature-length films and include a day-long zine fest from June 28-29 during International Pride Weekend. Zines are self-made, small circulation publications.
