New tool helps ER doctors decide when to order CT scan for neck injuries

Children seen in hospital emergency departments for possible cervical spine injuries often undergo computed tomography (CT) scans of the neck so doctors can better evaluate their status, but the imaging procedure exposes them to ionizing radiation, raising their risk for cancer.

Long-time UNM employee Cheryl Wallace retires after nearly three decades

Long-time University of New Mexico (UNM) employee Cheryl Wallace, who most recently served as the director for the Student Union Building (SUB), is set to retire on June 30. Reflecting on her nearly three-decade career at UNM, Wallace quoted Abraham Lincoln: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” She plans to spend her retirement finishing her dream house in New Mexico's East Mountains and spending more time with family.

Albuquerque reports an 11% decrease in auto-theft rates

ALBUQUERQUE – Auto theft decreased by 11% in a four-county metro area, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Albuquerque has now dropped from sixth to seventh place, having been listed worse in the nation from 2016-2018.
