Los Luceros Historic Site to offer Dawn til Dusk hours

The Los Luceros Historic Site in Alcalde has announced extended open hours to include dawn and dusk on the first Sunday of each month. 

The site will be open from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the first extended Sunday on July 7.

According to an announcement on the New Mexico Historic Sites, volunteers from the Pajarito Environmental Education Center will lead a bird watching walk from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Los Luceros is home to a wide variety of native birds, including Lewis’ Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers, black-chinned hummingbirds, Wilson’s warblers, and yellow-billed cuckoos.

July 7 will also feature Dr. Gregorio Gonzalez of Comanche & Genízaro, who will host a storytelling and musical performance at 11 a.m., followed by a zine-making workshop at 2 p.m. 

Artists are encouraged to use the extended hours to capture golden hour and increased opportunity for painting, sketching, and photography. 

Admission to the site is $7 per adult, with children 16 years old and younger admitted for free. Members of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, Friends of Coronado and Jemez, Native or Tribal affiliations, and disabled veterans are also admitted for free. 

The Los Luceros Historic Site is a 148-acre ranch located on the bank of the Río Grande. The property has an territorial-style Hacienda, an 18th century Capilla, a Victorian cottage, carriage house, guesthouse, and farmyard.
