Flying Fractals is the theme of this month's S.T.E.A.M. Night at the Balloon Museum on Saturday, July 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dr. Jonathan Wolfe of the Fractal Foundation will bring his expertise along with the foundation's mission to "use the beauty of fractals to inspire interest in science, math, and art" to the after-hours event. ABQ BioPark has announced the birth of a critically endangered ocelot kitten on July 8. The new addition was born to nine-year-old Lucy, who is solely responsible for the care of her kittens for at least one year. Currently, Lucy and her kitten are being monitored from a distance to allow natural bonding. The kitten is thriving and will undergo its first veterinary check-up at around six weeks old. It is expected that Lucy will keep her kitten indoors for now.

The City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department’s Air Quality Program was notified of a fire at the Cerro Colorado Landfill on July 17, 2024. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene, which is now contained. The Air Quality Program continues to monitor the situation and has not seen elevated smoke levels to require a health alert.
