Lockheed Martin and 4iG Space and Defence Technologies have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a long-range rocket artillery system specifically for the Hungarian Defence Forces. The agreement was formalized by Howard Bromberg, vice president of Lockheed Martin Business Development Land Forces, and István Sárhegyi, chief executive officer of 4iG Space and Defence Technologies, at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington.
The partnership aims to integrate Lockheed Martin’s artillery rocket system launcher loader module (LLM) onto Hungarian military trucks. This approach will use existing, combat-tested components with the goal of supporting local integration within Hungary.
The LLM can be equipped with different missile configurations: one ATACMS, two PrSM, six Standard-Range GMLRS, or six Extended-Range GMLRS missiles. The system is compatible with current M270A2 and HIMARS launchers, which are already used by several European military forces. This interoperability is designed to help Hungary meet NATO requirements for long-range fire support while ensuring alignment with U.S. and Hungarian governmental approvals.
“Lockheed Martin is eager to collaborate and leverage our combat-proven long-range rocket artillery solutions to address the pressing need to strengthen NATO and Europe’s defence capabilities,” said Paula Hartley, vice president of Lockheed Martin Tactical Missiles. “This partnership underscores our commitment to supporting European allies in bolstering their industrial capabilities, achieving strategic objectives and fulfilling NATO commitments.”
“The agreement signed today represents a significant step for the Hungarian defence industry,” said István Sárhegyi, chief executive officer of 4iG Space and Defence Technologies. “By the partnership with the world's largest defence contractor Lockheed Martin, we can lay the foundations for the development of domestic capabilities that is to strengthen Hungary’s position among NATO’s most reliable and well-prepared partners. The establishment of an industrial framework related to the HIMARS represents not just a technological advancement, but also the foundation of new, high value-added development and manufacturing capacities in Hungary.”
