Roswell Public Library has announced an open position for a Children and Youth Librarian. The role is supervised by the Library Director and focuses on programming, reference, and information services for young patrons. The position includes responsibilities such as recommending materials for the youth collection, assisting with program planning and implementation, and serving as Librarian in Charge when scheduled.
The job requires working closely with library staff, city departments, and community organizations to plan programs and special events that are inclusive of all age groups. Additional duties include providing direct service at the youth reference desk, suggesting updates to the library website, creating reading lists and displays, participating in committees or workgroups, maintaining effective communication with staff and the public, submitting monthly reports to the Library Director, and supporting city policies.
Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school along with 0-3 years of experience in a public library or equivalent education and training. Desired skills include delivering quality library programs, managing collections, applying research methods, operating computers and specialized equipment such as mobile devices or printers, communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and establishing cooperative relationships with coworkers.
Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is considered desirable. Experience managing staff or volunteers is also preferred. Candidates must hold a valid Class D driver’s license issued by New Mexico.
Physical requirements include standing for up to four hours at a time; lifting up to 25 pounds; pushing loaded book trucks weighing up to 120 pounds; bending; squatting; lifting boxes; adjusting furniture; hearing computer pings or phone rings; having close vision abilities; adapting to flexible schedules including evenings or weekends as needed.
Candidates will be required to pass a background investigation covering work history, criminal records, driving records among others. A pre-employment drug screening is also mandatory.
