Western New Mexico University ended its football season with a 70-23 loss to Midwestern State University at Ben Altamirano Field. The Mustangs, who finish the year with a 2-9 record and 1-8 in conference play, struggled to contain Midwestern State’s passing game, which produced 515 yards and eight touchdowns.

The game began with Western New Mexico receiving the opening kickoff. After an initial first down from a pass to Jalen Murphy, the drive stalled due to a sack and led to a punt. On their next possession, quarterback Connor Ackerley completed several passes—including a 27-yard gain to Zay Savoie—but the team failed to score after missing a field goal attempt.

Midwestern State took advantage of its opportunities early, ending the first quarter ahead 13-0 following one touchdown and two field goals. In the second quarter, penalties and sacks hampered Western New Mexico’s progress while Midwestern State added three more touchdowns, including a notable 75-yard rush by Reginald Williams.

Eli Wehbey connected with Gavin Placencio for a 16-yard touchdown late in the second quarter to put Western New Mexico on the board. However, Midwestern State responded quickly with another touchdown before halftime, leading 41-7 at the break.

Early in the third quarter, Wehbey threw an interception that was returned for a quick scoring drive by Midwestern State. Later in the period, Wehbey found Anthony Flores for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Despite this effort, Western New Mexico trailed 51-14 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, defensive pressure from Deven Dyer forced an incomplete pass on one drive. Although Midwestern State scored again early in the period, Western New Mexico answered with another long drive capped by Wehbey’s 52-yard touchdown pass to Davey Morales. The Mustangs also recorded a safety midway through the quarter but could not close the gap as Midwestern State continued its offensive output.

Wehbey finished with three passing touchdowns on 21 completions for 264 yards. Morales led receivers with six catches for 131 yards and one touchdown; Flores added four receptions for 67 yards and another score. Bradly Harris led defensively with eight tackles.

For Midwestern State, Sean Jastrab threw four touchdowns without an interception and totaled 356 passing yards. Cedonyae Lott caught four touchdowns among his eleven receptions for 284 yards. Williams rushed for over one hundred yards and scored once on thirteen carries; Case Peacock had two receiving touchdowns on six catches for over one hundred yards as well.

Midwestern State ends its season at 3-8 overall (3-6 conference).
