Eastern New Mexico University's rodeo team is preparing to conclude the 2025 portion of its season at a competition hosted by Clarendon College in Childress, Texas. The event will span three days and features several Eastern New Mexico student-athletes.
At their previous competition at Texas Tech two weeks ago, the Greyhounds had notable performances. Cutter Pareo, Bowdy Neece, Jacob Walters, Mackinzee Dermody, Shaeden Marr, and Kassidy Lightfoot all advanced to the short go. Jacob Walters won the all-around title at that event while Mackinzee Dermody tied for first place in goat tying. Both Walters and Dermody previously competed for Texas Tech before transferring to Eastern New Mexico this season. Both the men's and women's teams finished fourth at the Texas Tech rodeo; this matched the best finish for the men's team and was the second-best finish for the women's team.
Currently, Eastern New Mexico ranks fourth in both men's and women's standings within the Caprock region. The men's team has accumulated 1,275 points while third-place Texas Tech holds 1,605 points. On the women's side, Eastern New Mexico has 645.33 points compared to Texas Tech's 665 points in third place.
Jacob Walters leads all competitors in men's all-around with a total of 855 points—195 more than his closest rival. In tie down roping, Cutter Pareo is ranked fourth and Bowdy Neece seventh among regional competitors. Walters also stands second in steer wrestling with Orran Hart holding eleventh position in that category. Additionally, Walters leads as top team roping header with 470 points—a margin of 180 over second place.
For women’s events, Ali Terry is twelfth regionally in barrel racing with 40 points while Mackinzee Dermody is fourteenth in breakaway roping with 60 points but leads goat tying with 395 points. Shaeden Marr is fifth overall among Caprock competitors with 163.3 points.
The upcoming Clarendon College rodeo will see six Eastern New Mexico athletes compete on Thursday across two entries each in team roping and tie down events. Friday's schedule includes thirteen entries from ENMU athletes featuring four breakaway ropers and three barrel racers. On Saturday—the final day—nine ENMU entries are set to participate including three breakaway ropers, two barrel racers, and two teams entered into team roping.
The competition takes place indoors at an arena similar to one used recently by ENMU athletes during their last event in Lubbock.
