Greyhounds women's soccer falls to Midwestern State on Senior Day

Eastern New Mexico University's women's soccer team recognized six seniors during their final home game of the season but suffered a 5-0 defeat to Midwestern State on Saturday at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

Senior forward Mariana Gonzalez Jimenez led the team's offensive efforts, taking two shots. Junior Faith Zint added one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Rosie Willmott Joyce recorded 10 saves while facing a strong attack from the Mustangs, who took 23 shots with 14 on target.

Prior to the match, seniors Cristina Boluda Piqueras, Samantha Wood, Gaia Chies, Kaylee Baker, Mariana Gonzalez Jimenez, and Louise Godden were honored for their contributions to the program.

The Greyhounds managed three shots in the second half after not recording any attempts in the first period. They earned their only corner kick of the match after halftime. In comparison, Midwestern State finished with ten corners.

Midwestern State (9-1-6 overall, 9-0-4 in conference) scored first with an own goal by ENMU in the 14th minute. Bella Rose added another goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Leeci Snyder. The Mustangs extended their lead before halftime when Lillia Besedin scored in the 41st minute with another assist from Snyder.

In the second half, Madison Brinkley made it 4-0 for Midwestern State with a goal in the 47th minute assisted by Allessandra Romano. Jimena Rodriguez closed out scoring for Midwestern State in the 77th minute.

ENMU's defense faced ongoing pressure as Midwestern State tallied twelve shots before halftime and eleven more after. The Greyhounds committed nine fouls; Midwestern State had seven.

Eastern New Mexico (0-16-0 overall, 0-13-0 conference) will end its season on Tuesday, November 4, with an away game against Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
