Eastern New Mexico volleyball falls to nationally-ranked Angelo State

The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team was defeated in three sets by nationally-ranked Angelo State on Thursday night at the Junell Center - Stephens Arena in San Angelo, Texas. The match scores were 25-20, 25-13, and 25-21.

Junior outside hitter Amya Speller led the Greyhounds with 11 kills on 18 attempts, recording a .556 hitting percentage. She also contributed one solo block and two block assists, finishing with a total of 13 points.

Sophia Valdez, also a junior, added nine kills and posted a .179 hitting percentage on 28 attempts. Valdez had two block assists and four digs during the conference game.

Defensive specialist Imahni Brown led the team defensively with 12 digs. Her efforts helped keep Eastern New Mexico competitive throughout the match.

Eastern New Mexico finished with 37 kills and a .261 hitting percentage as a team. In comparison, Angelo State recorded 47 kills with a .371 attack efficiency. Julia Hopkins led Angelo State with 18 kills on 29 attempts for a .483 hitting percentage.

With this loss, Eastern New Mexico’s record stands at 4-19 overall and 1-11 in Lone Star Conference play. Angelo State improved to 16-7 overall and holds a conference record of 10-2.

Eastern New Mexico will play its next match against the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, on Saturday, November 1. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CST.
