The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team lost in straight sets to Midwestern State University on Tuesday at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales. The defeat brings the Greyhounds' season record to 4-18 overall and 1-10 in the Lone Star Conference.
Junior outside hitter Sophia Valdez led the Greyhounds with 11 kills and a .200 hitting percentage. Valdez also added four digs on defense. Senior libero Imahni Brown contributed a team-high 12 digs, helping the team remain competitive during several long rallies. In the third set, junior middle blocker Amya Speller recorded five kills and a .143 hitting percentage, giving the team a boost in its best offensive set of the match.
Eastern New Mexico will next face Angelo State University, which is receiving votes in national polls, on Friday, October 31. The Greyhounds will then travel to Odessa to play UT Permian Basin on Saturday, November 1, as they continue their conference schedule.
