New Mexico United secured a 2-1 home victory over Rhode Island FC on Blackout Night, an event that also honored retiring midfielder Daniel Bruce. The announcement was made by ESPN Albuquerque 101.7 "The Team."

According to the report, New Mexico United concluded their season with this win, marking an emotional farewell to longtime player Daniel Bruce. Bruce joined United in 2019 as one of their original signings and retired after seven seasons with 171 appearances, 17 goals, and 21 assists. He was substituted off in the seventh minute to a standing ovation from 10,125 fans. United’s first-half goals from Mukwelle Akale and Talen Maples proved decisive, securing victory despite Rhode Island’s strong second-half push.

Bruce's final match symbolized both celebration and closure for New Mexico United fans. After his early substitution, United took control of the game through sharp attacking play and strong possession. Akale opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-placed shot, while Maples converted a penalty just before halftime to restore the lead. Though Rhode Island equalized briefly, United’s resilience carried them through to victory and a third seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Goalkeeper Kris Shakes earned Player of the Match honors after making five crucial saves in the second half. His performance preserved United’s lead, including a key stop against Maxi Rodriguez in the 70th minute. Rhode Island’s late pressure tested the home side, but United held firm to end their season on a high note. The team now prepares to host San Antonio FC in the first round of the playoffs on November 1, having beaten them three times earlier this year.
