ENMU rodeo team prepares for competition at Lovington event

Eastern New Mexico University’s rodeo team is set to compete in its third event of the season at a rodeo hosted by New Mexico Junior College in Lovington, New Mexico. The competition will take place over three days, with performances scheduled for 7 p.m. each night and slack sessions beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday mornings.

During their last outing at Frank Phillips College from September 25 to 27, several members of the ENMU team achieved notable results. Duncan Adamson advanced to the short go in steer wrestling, while Shaeden Marr and Mackinzee Dermody reached the short round in goat tying. Marr secured second place in the average and had a strong finish in the short go. Jacob Walters also placed second in the average with his team roping partner from NMJC. In barrel racing, Ali Terry qualified for Saturday night's performance and scored 40 points.

For this upcoming weekend, ENMU will have ten entries on Thursday night at Jake McClure Arena, another ten participants on Friday, and eight more competing on Saturday. Thursday's events will feature Gracie Hillrud, Ali Terry, and Harlee Barela in barrels, as well as Shaeden Marr and Mackinzee Dermody in goat tying.

In regional rankings, Eastern New Mexico’s men’s rodeo team is currently fifth in the Caprock region while the women’s team holds fourth place. Individual athletes are also making an impact: Bowdy Neece is ranked second and Cutter Pareo eleventh in tie down roping; Jacob Walters is second among heelers and fifth among steer wrestlers; Ali Terry is within the top ten for barrels; Mackinzee Dermody ranks second and Shaeden Marr fourth among goat tyers.
