Western New Mexico University (WNMU) volleyball secured a four-set victory over Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) on Saturday afternoon at Drag's Court. The match ended with set scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-16, and 25-16.
WNMU’s performance was highlighted by nine total blocks, contributing to their strong showing. The first set saw WNMU gain an early advantage with kills from Daphne Posthumus and defensive plays from Hailey Meeks. Despite efforts from ENMU to close the gap, WNMU maintained composure and took the set 25-19.
The second set remained competitive, with both teams exchanging points. ENMU managed to edge out WNMU late in the set for a 25-23 win, tying the match.
In the third set, WNMU regained control through a series of opponent errors and effective blocking by Brynlee Barris and Isabella Brewer. Jayden Hughes contributed key kills as WNMU extended their lead and closed the set at 25-16.
The fourth set saw consistent play from WNMU, with service aces from Savanna Haefs and additional kills from Hughes and Barris helping secure another 25-16 win. The final point came from Jade Rampton and Posthumus, assisted by Haefs.
Posthumus led WNMU with 17 kills and three blocks. Haggard recorded 23 assists and two service aces. Barris had five blocks and six kills, while Haefs delivered four service aces without an error.
For ENMU, Sophia Valdez posted 24 kills on a .381 hitting percentage. Catalina Gutierrez had 24 assists, while Jayla Yoder contributed three service aces.
Following this match, Western New Mexico holds a 9-10 overall record; Eastern New Mexico is now at 4-15 overall. WNMU’s next game is scheduled against Cameron on October 23 at Drag's Court in Silver City at 6 p.m.
