New Mexico United extended its unbeaten streak to six matches after a 3-3 draw against Oakland Roots SC on Saturday night. The match, held at The Lab, saw New Mexico United (13-10-6, 45 pts) already assured of a place in the 2025 USL Championship Playoffs. With one regular-season game left, the team is focused on improving its playoff position.

The home team took an early lead when Mukwelle Akale scored in the 13th minute. Oakland quickly equalized with a penalty three minutes later. An own goal by Oakland restored United's lead at 2-1. Before halftime, Akale won a penalty that Talen Maples converted, making it 3-1. Oakland narrowed the gap with another penalty in the 40th minute and equalized in the 82nd minute.

Both teams had opportunities to score late in the game but couldn't find a winner before the final whistle. Akale was instrumental throughout, causing problems for Oakland's defense and setting up a crucial penalty opportunity. Maples not only scored his sixth goal of the season but also provided solid defensive support.

Statistically, Oakland outshot New Mexico United with 15 shots compared to United's 10. However, New Mexico managed two shots on goal while facing eight from their opponents. Fouls were nearly even with New Mexico committing 11 and Oakland 10.

New Mexico United will face Rhode Island FC next Friday at The Lab for Blackout Night as they aim to secure better playoff seeding and maintain momentum heading into postseason play.
