Eastern New Mexico University's Chama El-Hadiri has been named the Lone Star Conference (LSC) freshman runner of the week for the second time this season. The honor comes after her performance at the DBU Old Glory Gallop, where she recorded the fastest time among LSC freshmen.
"(Chama) is working very hard in practice and does everything we ask," said assistant coach Keyanah Browning. "She is excited for conference, and I think she is going to do something special at that meet."
El-Hadiri completed the 5k course at AP Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas with a collegiate best time of 18:23. She finished 26th overall in a field of more than 40 programs and contributed to Eastern New Mexico's 18th place team finish.
The athlete from Morocco has participated in three meets this season for Eastern New Mexico University. Earlier in the season, she placed 22nd at the Texas Tech Open and received her first LSC freshman runner of the week recognition following that event. In her most recent race hosted by Dallas Baptist University (DBU), she finished just behind two runners from Ranger Community College and ahead of a competitor from Midwestern State.
The event on Saturday included 11 teams from the Lone Star Conference, with El-Hadiri posting the top freshman time among those schools.
Eastern New Mexico University will compete next at the LSC cross country championships in Fort Worth, Texas on October 25.
