Eastern New Mexico falls to West Texas A&M in straight sets

Eastern New Mexico University's volleyball team lost in straight sets to West Texas A&M on Saturday during a Lone Star Conference match at WTAMU Fieldhouse in Canyon, Texas. The final scores were 25-12, 25-14, and 25-11.

The Greyhounds, now with a record of 3-13 overall and 1-5 in conference play, were led by Amya Speller and Aaliyah Butler who each recorded five kills with a .056 hitting percentage. Sophia Valdez contributed seven kills, while Linden Pennings added four kills and one block assist for a total of 4.5 points. Violeta Flores had 11 assists and Catalina Gutierrez provided seven assists.

West Texas A&M improved to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Kaycee Cavanaugh led the Lady Buffs with 12 kills, while Emma Becker added five kills. The Lady Buffs achieved a .333 hitting percentage, which was the second highest by an ENMU opponent this season. In contrast, ENMU finished with a -.032 hitting percentage. Taytum Stow made an impact defensively for West Texas A&M with three block assists and five solo blocks.

ENMU struggled offensively throughout the match, recording more errors than kills—28 errors against just 25 kills on 94 attempts.

Looking ahead, Eastern New Mexico will host New Mexico Highlands in non-conference play on Monday, October 14. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
