The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will play St. Edward's University in a Lone Star Conference match on Wednesday. The game is set for 6 p.m. at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales, New Mexico.
St. Edward's leads the all-time series against Eastern New Mexico 7-0.
Eastern New Mexico was ranked 14th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. Players highlighted as ones to watch include Gaia Chies (offense), Cristina Boluda Piqueras (defense), and Rosie Willmott Joyce (goalkeeper). The Greyhounds have five first-year players and seven returning athletes from last season.
In their most recent conference match, Eastern New Mexico lost 7-0 to Lubbock Christian. Meredith Brown and Simone Brothers each had one shot on goal, and the team recorded three corner kicks during the match.
Louise Godden scored the team's first goal of the season during a match against UT Dallas on September 24, converting a corner kick in the 82nd minute.
Looking ahead, Eastern New Mexico will travel to face Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, October 11, with kickoff scheduled for noon Mountain Time at Eagle Soccer Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.
St. Edward's Hilltoppers were picked sixth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll after receiving 435 votes. Annie Rocha returns following her recognition as LSC Freshman of the Year, All-Region selection, and All-LSC First Team honors after scoring ten goals last season. This year, Rocha leads her team with six goals and one assist and has attempted 42 shots so far.
The Hilltoppers have taken 143 shots this season compared to their opponents' 132. Goalkeeper Daria Schlumbohm has started all ten matches for St. Edward’s, recording 40 saves with a save percentage of .690.
