The Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA) has announced the continuation of its Summer Research Fellowship Program for 2026. This initiative offers scholars, researchers, and public folklorists a chance to engage with MOIFA's extensive collections and archives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The program invites applicants to work on research projects related to the museum's renowned folk art collection and Bartlett Library and Archives collections over a period of four to six weeks.

The fellowship aims to promote innovative research, creativity, and community engagement. Participants will collaborate with MOIFA staff, interpret diverse collections, and share their findings. "After a successful inaugural program this summer, we are pleased to announce the continuation of this important initiative in 2026," said Charlie Lockwood, Executive Director of MOIFA. He emphasized that participants' projects would advance understanding and responsible cultural stewardship.

Applications for the program are due by November 17, 2025. Selected fellows will receive a $2,500 honorarium along with travel reimbursement up to $1,000 and additional stipends for lodging and living expenses. They will also have access to dedicated workspace and opportunities for community immersion.

Addison Nace, a participant from the 2025 Summer Fellowship, described the experience as an "intellectual home" that allowed for transdisciplinary connections between community-based research and object histories in the archives.

The program is supported by the International Folk Art Foundation and Susan and Steven Goldstein. Further details can be found on MOIFA’s website at htps://moifa.org/learn/research-fellowship-program.

MOIFA is part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs under the leadership of the Board of Regents for the Museum of New Mexico. Since its founding in 1953, it has amassed over 163,000 objects from more than 160 countries.
