The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is preparing for Día de los Muertos with a series of events designed for all ages. This holiday, celebrated across Latin America at the beginning of November, honors deceased friends and family members.
The festivities begin on Saturday, October 18, with "Noche de Familia: Noche de Cempasúchil," featuring a screening of Disney*Pixar’s "Coco." The film follows young Miguel as he explores the Land of the Dead on Día de los Muertos. Before the movie starts at 5:00 p.m., visitors can participate in interactive green screen demonstrations starting at 4:00 p.m.
On October 25, NHCC will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with activities inspired by Día de los Muertos traditions. Families can contribute to a community ofrenda and view those created by local schools and organizations. The event includes sugar skull decorating, paper flower crafting, face-painting, and more.
The annual "Día de Familia" event will take place on November 1. Attendees can again contribute to the community ofrenda and enjoy crafts. Traditional Pan de Muerte will be available alongside offerings from local food trucks. Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-returnable photo or item for the ofrenda.
All events are free to attend. More information and registration details are available at nhccnm.org/events.
