Eastern New Mexico University's football team faced a tough loss against Central Washington University, ranked 16th nationally, with a final score of 58-7 in Ellensburg, Washington. The game took place before an audience of more than 5,000 during a Lone Star Conference matchup.

Central Washington started the game strongly by forcing an early three-and-out and scoring on their first play. They maintained defensive pressure throughout the first quarter, adding two more touchdowns and holding Eastern New Mexico to just one first down.

The second quarter saw continued dominance from Central Washington as they capitalized on turnovers and short drives to lead 52-0 at halftime. In the third quarter, Eastern New Mexico's Dillon Hein forced a fumble on a punt return that set up favorable field position for his team. However, a penalty ended that scoring opportunity.

Eastern New Mexico showed some improvement in offensive drives during the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jarius Stewart scored the team's only touchdown with a one-yard rush on their final possession. Stewart led Eastern's rushing attack with 64 yards on 13 carries, most of which came during the last drive. Demarion Finch contributed an additional 35 rushing yards.

Despite the loss, Eastern New Mexico achieved 187 total rushing yards—the highest allowed by Central Washington to any Division II opponent this season. On defense, Aaron Warren made 12 tackles for Eastern New Mexico, including one for loss.

Central Washington's quarterback Kennedy McGill recorded 132 passing yards and 67 rushing yards, contributing two touchdowns each through the air and on the ground. Mason Juergens was among their leading receivers with three catches for 36 yards and one touchdown.

After this defeat, Eastern New Mexico will prepare to host Western Oregon in Portales, New Mexico on October 11 for the Hall of Honors Game at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.
