Lubbock Christian University defeated Western New Mexico University in a five-set volleyball match at Rip Griffin Center on Saturday. The Chaparrals, now 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference, secured the win with set scores of 25-21, 25-27, 22-25, 25-12, and 15-11. Western New Mexico’s record moves to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Mustangs started strong in the first set with an early lead after a kill by Jayden Hughes, assisted by Hannah Haggard. Lubbock Christian responded quickly and went on a five-point run to take control. Despite late efforts from Western New Mexico—including a service ace from Haggard and a block by Hailey Meeks and Daphne Posthumus—the Chaparrals closed out the set.

In the second set, Western New Mexico maintained momentum through strategic plays and key contributions from several players. The Mustangs overcame a mid-set deficit with blocks from Brynlee Barris and Meeks to tie the score at 21 before winning the set in extra points after consecutive blocks by Posthumus.

The third set saw WNMU take an early lead with help from Jayla McDuffie’s service ace and continued pressure at the net. Meeks contributed important kills while Barris delivered a key block. The Mustangs capitalized on Lubbock Christian errors late in the set to secure a win.

Lubbock Christian controlled much of the fourth set after responding to an initial point by Posthumus. The Chaparrals extended their lead through consistent scoring runs and limited WNMU’s ability to close the gap despite efforts from several Mustang players.

In the deciding fifth set, WNMU fought back from an early deficit with scoring plays led by McDuffie’s assists and kills from Jade Rampton and Salgado. After briefly taking a one-point lead at 10-9 following a block by Barris and Hughes, Lubbock Christian finished strong to claim victory.

Posthumus led Western New Mexico with ten total blocks and ten kills. Haggard added 22 assists along with fifteen digs. McDuffie recorded sixteen digs for defensive support while Meeks tallied nine blocks and eight kills.

For Lubbock Christian, Lily Bickley posted seventeen kills for nineteen-and-a-half points; Abby Dominguez had twenty-nine digs; Camdyn Sears registered fifty-four assists along with twenty-three digs; Schweer contributed five total blocks.

Western New Mexico will play Texas A&M International next Thursday at Drag's Court in Silver City, NM.
