The Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) women's soccer team will travel to Dallas, Texas, for a conference matchup against the nationally-ranked Dallas Baptist University (DBU) Patriots. The game is set for September 26 at Patriot Soccer Field, beginning at 12 p.m. Mountain Time.
In their previous meetings, DBU holds a strong advantage over ENMU with a 7-0 series record.
ENMU enters the match after being selected 14th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. Gaia Chies was named as an offensive player to watch, Cristina Boluda Piqueras as defensive player to watch, and Rosie Willmott Joyce as goalkeeper to watch. This season’s roster includes five first-year players and seven returning athletes from last year’s squad.
The Greyhounds are coming off a recent home loss to UT Dallas by a score of 4-1. Louise Godden scored ENMU’s first goal of the season in the 82nd minute on a corner kick that reached the top left corner of the net. Goalkeeper Rosie Willmott Joyce recorded four saves during that match. Other contributors included Brooklyn Guajardo, Simone Brothers, and Sophia Jeffres, each taking one shot on goal.
Looking ahead, ENMU is scheduled for another road conference match against Texas Woman's University next Wednesday.
DBU enters this contest ranked fourth nationally and was chosen as favorites to win the Lone Star Conference after receiving 650 votes and 29 first-place votes in preseason polling. Seven Patriots—Parker Coe, Anne Louthan, Angelina Olmos, Riley Olsen, Skylar Belengar, Kenzi Tufts, and Ashley Washburn—have each scored two goals so far this season. McKenna Vela and Chandler Wheat lead DBU with three assists apiece.
Goalkeeper Mikaela Gracia has played every minute across seven matches this season for DBU while allowing only two goals and making four saves. The Patriots are coming off a recent 2-1 victory over UT Tyler and finished second in last year’s NCAA Regional Tournament.
