Eastern New Mexico University's men's cross country team participated in the New Mexico Junior College Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational on Friday morning at Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs, New Mexico.
The 8-kilometer race consisted of three loops around the park's perimeter, with a mostly flat and grassy course that included some small hills.
Assistant coach Keyanah Browning commented on the team's performance: "Our men went out a little too aggressively today and some didn't go aggressive at all with some guys managing minor setbacks. It made the race tough to hold together. Still, the effort was there, and they will learn from it moving forward."
Thomas Aerdts was the top finisher for Eastern New Mexico, completing the course in 28:55.1. Emmanuel Hernandez finished shortly after with a time of 29:04.3, coming close to achieving a personal record at this meet.
Other finishers for Eastern New Mexico included Brian Norton, Jackson Gable, and Eloy Serrano Borrego. The team placed sixth overall among eight participating programs. New Mexico Junior College won the event by having five runners finish in the top nine spots. Angelo State University, another member of the Lone Star Conference, finished one place ahead of Eastern New Mexico.
