The Western New Mexico University men's golf team secured a fourth place finish at the San Juan Intercollegiate in Montrose, Colorado. The Mustangs posted a combined team score of 271-292-278, finishing 11 strokes under par.
Jacob Alcorta led the team throughout the tournament and ended with a standout round of 66, five under par. He achieved his best college result to date by tying for fifth place with rounds of 67, 74, and 66 for a total score of six under par. Jonty Butcher followed closely, recording a final round of 69 that included six birdies. In his first collegiate event, Butcher tied for 20th place with scores of 70, 72, and 69 for a two-under-par finish.
Oscar Feschuk and Tyler Jackson both finished tied for 27th at even par. Feschuk completed the tournament with rounds of 68, 73, and 72 while Jackson recorded scores of 67, 75, and 71. Jayden Schmitz was next for Western New Mexico University, tying for 36th after rounds of 69, 73, and 75 to finish four over par.
Competing as an individual entry was Max Kaesebier who finished in 62nd place at plus-31.
Colorado Mesa took first place in the tournament at minus-24. West Texas A&M finished second at minus-19 while Cameron University rounded out the top three teams at minus-10. Luis Palomo from West Texas A&M claimed individual honors by finishing at sixteen under par.
Looking ahead, the Mustangs plan to continue their fall season by competing in Tulum, Mexico at the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya from September 28 to September 30.
