The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team is set to play against UT Dallas in a Lone Star Conference match on Wednesday, September 24 at 7 p.m. The game will take place at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium and coincides with Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
This will be the first time the two programs face each other in competition.
The Greyhounds were ranked 14th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. Gaia Chies was named as a player to watch on offense, Cristina Boluda Piqueras for defense, and Rosie Willmott Joyce as goalkeeper. The team has five new first-year players joining seven returning athletes from last season.
In their most recent game, Eastern New Mexico lost at home to UT Permian Basin with a score of 3-0. Louise Godden led the team in shots taken during that match. Other Greyhounds who recorded shots included Sloane Sinnott, Brooklyn Guajardo, Laci Lozoya, Arissa C'DeBaca, Sofia Moore, and Simone Brothers.
Looking ahead after this matchup, Eastern New Mexico will travel for a conference game against #4 DBU on Saturday.
UT Dallas was projected to finish 12th in the conference according to preseason rankings. Senior Chelsea Vilca and sophomore Jules Chavez are expected to play significant roles; last year Vilca scored 10 goals with four assists while Chavez had nine goals and four assists. Both Vilca and Robison were included among the 39 student-athletes highlighted on the LSC Preseason Players to Watch list. Currently, Vilca and Thompson lead the conference in goals with six each, and Thompson leads in points with 14. UT Dallas is coming off its first loss of the season after falling to Midwestern State by a score of 2-1.
