Eastern New Mexico University's men's and women's rodeo teams are set to compete at a rodeo hosted by Frank Phillips College in Canadian, Texas, from September 25 to 27. The event will start on Thursday and conclude with finals on Saturday night.
Both ENMU teams recently finished among the top five at their home rodeo last weekend. The women's team secured second place, led by strong performances in goat tying, while the men's team placed fifth, falling just 45 points short of second overall. The teams demonstrated improved versatility across different events compared to previous years.
Mackinzee Dermody was a key performer for the women's team, winning both rounds of goat tying at the College "Daze" Rodeo. She was supported by Shaeden Marr, who added points with a sixth-place finish in goat tying. On the men's side, Bowdy Neece took second in tie down roping and Jacob Walters earned significant points in steer wrestling and team roping.
The upcoming competition will feature all ten Caprock region teams. Three Greyhounds will compete on Thursday when events begin at 6:30 p.m. CT. Friday is expected to be busy for ENMU with 16 student-athletes participating, followed by nine competitors on Saturday aiming for spots in the finals. Joaquin Alcon is set to make his season debut in bull riding on Thursday night.
"There is excitement among our athletes as they look forward to competing again so soon after their recent successes," said an ENMU representative.
