Western New Mexico women's golf sits third after first round at High Country Shootout

The Western New Mexico University Women's Golf team is in third place after the first day of the Poss High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The team posted a score of 302 (+18) during the opening round.

Falyn Lackey led the field with a 69 (-2), making six birdies and securing the top spot on the leaderboard. "Lackey had 6 birdies on the day and looks to continue her fine form into the final round." Alexandria Klemke finished with a 73 (+2), tying for sixth place after day one.

Corynn Speer and Nicole Jasso both recorded scores of 80 (+9), putting them in a tie for 22nd. Erin Turner ended her round with an 86 (+15), which placed her tied for 37th. Kelly Peden, competing as an individual, shot an 82 (+11) and is tied for 28th.

The team will aim to improve its standing as play resumes at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time in Ruidoso.
