New Mexico United faces Colorado Springs Switchbacks in critical playoff race match

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

New Mexico United will travel to Colorado Springs on Wednesday for a key match in the USL Championship Western Conference playoff race. The team currently holds fifth place in the standings and is seeking to maintain its momentum as the regular season nears its end.

This will be the third meeting of the year between New Mexico United and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. In their previous two encounters, United won at home during the Jagermeister cup and drew in another June fixture. The upcoming game presents an opportunity for United to win the season series and strengthen their position for a playoff spot.

Forward Luther Archimède has contributed significantly off the bench, scoring two goals in six games, including a late equalizer against Monterey Bay. Defender Kipp Keller has also played an important role since joining United, providing leadership and defensive stability.

Goalkeeper Alex Tambakis is close to making league history. After achieving his 58th career shutout, he is tied with Evan Newton for most clean sheets in USL Championship history. One more clean sheet would make Tambakis the league’s all-time leader.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks have reached playoff contention with consistent performances from players like Marco Micaletto, who leads the team with six goals, and Matthew Mahoney, who tops several defensive categories for his club.

After Wednesday's match in Colorado Springs, New Mexico United will return home to host Lexington SC on Sunday at 4 PM MT as they continue their push toward postseason qualification.
