The Western New Mexico University women's golf team finished in 10th place at the RJGA Shootout held at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona. The Mustangs improved their team score by eight shots in Tuesday’s final round, recording a 306 for a tournament total of 620 (+44).
Falyn Lackey (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) led the team with a steady performance, posting a score of 74 (+2) in the second round after opening with a 72. She made two birdies on Tuesday and totaled four for the tournament. Lackey’s tie for sixth place marks her second-best collegiate finish.
Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) also contributed to the team’s progress by shooting an even-par 72 in the second round. Her performance moved her up 17 spots to finish tied for 30th.
Corynn Speer (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) closed out her tournament with an 80 after a first-round score of 77, tying for 43rd place. Nicole Jasso (Deming, NM/Deming HS) improved by five strokes over her previous round to shoot an 80 and finish in 61st place. Erin Turner (Deming, NM/Deming HS) posted an 86 to place 67th. Kelly Peden (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS), competing as an individual, finished tied for 69th after shooting an 89.
The Mustangs will continue their season September 22-23 at the ENMU Ruidoso High Country Shootout at the Links at Sierra Blanca.
