Western New Mexico University’s women’s tennis team continued its strong performance on the second day of the Kimbell Memorial Invitational. Josefina Bailetti, representing Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina, secured two wins with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-0. Nikoletta Pytel from Warsaw, Poland also achieved a decisive victory with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-1.
Lucia Carmena from Alcala de Henares, Spain won her first match 6-4, 6-2 but was defeated in her second match 1-6, 3-6. Xaviera Melgar of Tacna, Peru lost her opening game 4-6 but came back to win the next two games 7-5 and 10-5; she lost her second match by double bagel scores of 0-6, 0-6.
Eva Guta from Bucharest, Romania dropped her first game 3-6 but took the second game at 5-7 before falling in a tie-breaker at 10-5. In her subsequent match she was defeated again with scores of 1-6 and 4-6.
The doubles pairing of Bailetti and Guta resulted in a win for Western New Mexico University with a score of 6-2.
The Kimbell Memorial Invitational is set to conclude tomorrow.
