The Western New Mexico University tennis teams participated in the Kimbell Memorial Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, this weekend. Both men's and women's squads secured several wins during the event.
In singles play for the men's team, Mael Houee won his match 6-2, 6-3. Yannik Rogulski also recorded a straight-set victory with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Benjamin Vriends lost a close contest, finishing 7-6(7), 6-4. Christopher Lund-Kuhl split his first two sets and clinched the tiebreaker 16-14 after winning the opening set 6-4 and dropping the second 2-6.
David Guta was defeated with scores of 2-6, 4-6. Djamel-Dine Bey also lost his singles match, falling 4-6, 1-6.
In doubles competition, Houee and Rogulski were narrowly beaten in their first match, losing 7-5 before winning their second match 6-4. The pairings of Guta/Vriends and Bey/Lund-Kuhl both dropped their matches; Guta and Vriends fell by a score of 4-6 while Bey and Lund-Kuhl lost two matches at scores of 4-6 and then 2-6.
The men’s team is scheduled to finish play at the Kimbell Memorial Invitational tomorrow.
