Western New Mexico men’s tennis competes on opening day of Kimbell Memorial Invitational

The Western New Mexico University men's tennis team began competition at the Kimbell Memorial Invitational on Friday in San Antonio, Texas. The event is hosted by St. Mary's University.

Djamel-Dine Bey participated in two singles matches, losing his first 0-6, 3-6 and narrowly dropping his second in a third set super tiebreak, 3-6, 5-7.

Christopher Lund-Kuhl won both of his singles matches with scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-3.

Yannik Rogulski played two close singles matches but was defeated 6-7(7), 1-6 and then 4-6, 3-6.

Mael Houee lost both of his singles contests with scores of 3-6, 3-6 and then 5-7, 4-6.

Freshman David Guta lost his first match after a tiebreaker (2-6, 7-6(7)), and was edged out in his second match (6-7(7), 7-5). Benjamin Vriends played one singles match and was defeated 4-6, 3-6.

In doubles play, Bey and Lund-Kuhl lost their match by a score of 1-6. Rogulski and Houee were defeated in a close contest (5-7). Vriends and Guta also fell in their doubles match (2-6).

The Mustangs are scheduled to continue competing at the Kimbell Memorial Invitational on Saturday morning.
