This upcoming contest marks the twelfth meeting between Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) and Adams State. ENMU holds a slight advantage in the series with five wins, four losses, and two draws. For the current season, ENMU was picked fourteenth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. Gaia Chies (offensive), Cristina Boluda Piqueras (defensive), and Rosie Willmott Joyce (goalkeeper) were named as players to watch. The team added five first-year players to its roster while returning seven from last season.

In their most recent outing, ENMU lost 5-0 to Fort Lewis College in Durango. Arissa C'DeBaca led the Greyhounds with three shots—two of which were on target—while goalkeeper Aja Gonzales has started every match this season and has made 18 saves with a .750 save percentage.

ENMU is set to begin conference play at home against UT Permian Basin on September 20.

Adams State was ranked twelfth in the RMAC preseason poll after finishing last year with a 3-12-2 overall record and a 1-10-1 conference mark. The Grizzlies return twelve players from their previous roster and have added sixteen newcomers. This season they opened with a win over Sul Ross State and tied against West Texas A&M.
