Trinity Site public tour set for October by New Mexico Museum of Space History

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Trinity Site, where the first atomic bomb was detonated in 1945 as part of the Manhattan Project, will be open to the public for a guided tour on October 18, 2025. The event is organized by the New Mexico Museum of Space History, which operates under the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Public tours to this historic location are held only once each year.

Participants will visit Ground Zero and take a shuttle to the McDonald Ranch House, where the plutonium core for the bomb was assembled. The bus tour departs from Alamogordo at 7:00 AM and returns around 3:15 PM. Tickets are priced at $155 per person, with a discount available for museum members. The trip includes breakfast snacks, lunch, bottled water, and admission to the museum on the same day.

“If you’ve never been to Trinity Site, this is absolutely the best way to travel there. On the coach, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the trip comfortably and learn about the bomb and Trinity Site from our volunteer travel guides,” said Johnny Powell, President of the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation.

Cameras are permitted at Trinity Site but not elsewhere on White Sands Missile Range. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes due to strong sun exposure in southern New Mexico.

More information about registration can be found on https://www.spacehalloffame.org/trinity-site-tour-registration/. The New Mexico Museum of Space History highlights New Mexico’s contributions to space exploration as part of its exhibits and is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.

A downloadable brochure about Trinity Site is also available at https://home.army.mil/wsmr/3316/8020/2958/T-site_brochure_S.pdf.

The museum’s address is 3198 State Route 2001, Alamogordo, NM 88310.
