Dakota Spillers has returned to Western New Mexico University (WNMU) as the Associate Athletic Director of Communications and Advancement. Spillers, who previously worked at WNMU as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications, spent the last three years at Jessup University. During his time at Jessup, he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations and contributed significantly to the department's growth.
At Jessup, Spillers was involved in various aspects of the athletic program, including administration and business management. He played a crucial role in Jessup's transition to NCAA Division II and helped increase annual fundraising from $800,000 in FY24 to over $1 million in FY25. He also introduced several support clubs like 'The 6th Man Club' for Men's Basketball and 'Dugout Club' for Baseball.
Spillers' efforts extended to enhancing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for student-athletes. As a Sport Admin, he oversaw Men's Soccer, Men's and Women's Golf, and Softball teams. His strategic leadership fostered competitive success and strengthened donor engagement.
Before his tenure at Jessup, Spillers made significant contributions at WNMU by managing communications for all 13 intercollegiate sports. He led initiatives such as redesigning WNMUmustangs.com, launching a mobile app for athletics, creating Mustang Radio for home event broadcasts, and establishing a partnership with eTeamSponsor (ETS).
Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to WNMU, Spillers said: "I am incredibly excited to return to Western New Mexico University and serve in this new capacity." Interim Athletic Director Matt Enriquez added: "Dakota's track record of innovation, relationship-building, and strategic leadership makes him the perfect fit for this role."
Spillers is set to welcome his first child with his wife Ariana in January 2026. They have two dogs named Tucker and Remington.
