New Mexico United will travel to Kentucky this weekend for an important interconference match against Louisville City FC. The match, scheduled for Saturday night, comes as New Mexico sits sixth in the USL Championship’s Western Conference. The team aims to build on its recent draw with Las Vegas Lights FC.

This encounter is the first between the two clubs since August 2024, when Louisville secured a 1-0 win at New Mexico's home stadium. With playoff positions at stake, United seeks to earn three points against Louisville, currently leading the Eastern Conference.

Forward Thomas Amang has been a key contributor for United’s offense. "Utilizing his pace and physicality, Amang has consistently challenged opposing defenses and recently recorded his second goal of the season, solidifying his role as a key offensive threat," according to the club.

Defender Zico Bailey has also played an important role this season. "Equally effective in defensive and advanced positions, Bailey boasts a passing accuracy of over 85% and has established himself as a dependable two-way presence for United," the club said.

Goalkeeper Alex Tambakis is nearing a league milestone. He needs two more clean sheets to set the USL Championship regular season record for shutouts. A clean sheet against Louisville would allow him to tie Evan Newton's record of 52.

Midfielder Sergio Rivas is close to reaching 10,000 minutes played in regular season action and could make his 150th regular season appearance soon.

Louisville City enters the match with one of the top offenses in the league. Forward Phillip Goodrum leads with 12 goals this year while midfielder Taylor Davila has contributed 42 chances created and 11 combined goals and assists.

After facing Louisville City FC, New Mexico United will return home to host Sacramento Republic FC on August 30 at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. The event will be part of Indigenous Peoples Night, which celebrates Indigenous communities across New Mexico.
