Minor League Baseball teams across the country are planning events in 2025 to highlight and support girls and women in sports. These promotions, scheduled by several clubs at different levels of Minor League Baseball, aim to recognize the achievements of women athletes and create opportunities for community engagement.
The Harrisburg Senators, a Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, will hold their Women in Sports Night on April 12. The event includes a Women in Sports Summit featuring panels with athletes, content creators, and front-office personnel from various sports. Katie O'Rourke, senior manager of game presentation for the Nationals, will attend along with representatives from the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens. Fans who purchase a summit ticket receive access to all panels as well as a "Women in Sports" T-shirt. The pregame Boardwalk Bash will feature music by female artists and games involving panelists.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps, affiliated with the San Diego Padres at the High-A level, will host Fort Wayne Daises Night on May 17. This annual event honors Fort Wayne’s All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team. Former Daisies players often participate alongside other AAGPBL alumni. This year’s event includes an appearance by Megan Cavanagh, known for her role as Marla Hooch in "A League of Their Own." Premium ticket holders can meet Cavanagh before the game.
In Richmond, Virginia, the Flying Squirrels—Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants—will present Women and Girls in Sports Night on May 31. The day features a softball clinic for girls and women held on-field at The Diamond before first pitch. A panel discussion is also planned; last year’s included Virginia Commonwealth University women's basketball head coach Beth O’Boyle.
The Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) plan their Women in Sports Night for August 2 against Syracuse Mets. Last year's guests included Olympic silver medalist Anita Alvarez and women leaders from local professional teams such as the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. This season's participants have not yet been announced but are expected to join a panel discussion with opportunities for fan questions.
Albuquerque Isotopes fans can look forward to Women in Sports Night on September 4 when they host Round Rock Express (TEX). According to organizers: “The Isotopes are excited to announce details of this year's Women in Sports Night event in Albuquerque a little later on in the season -- and fans should be excited for that announcement, too.” Previous years have featured guests like University of New Mexico alumna Jadyn Edwards while focusing both on elite female athletes' accomplishments and broader themes about participation at all levels: “The club has become known for putting together something special for this promotion... emphasizing not only the accomplishments of elite female athletes... but also ways that sports and athleticism can be an enriching and joyful part of life for any woman.” Organizers believe these events convey “a simple and important message that still gets under-communicated on a societal level.”
