Los Luceros Historic Site will host its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Alcalde, New Mexico. The event is designed to highlight Northern New Mexico’s culture and heritage through activities for visitors of all ages.

The festival includes art and craft activities led by site staff, story readings and book signings by children’s authors, and performances from Moving Arts Española and musician Martin Martinez of Taos. The New Mexico Wildlife Center will conduct a wildlife demonstration.

Several organizations are participating in the event. The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum will present the exhibit "Eight Sites, One History: Explore the Past at New Mexico Historic Sites." The Bradbury Science Center education truck will be available for exploration, and the New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies will provide hands-on activities.

"We are thrilled to welcome back old and new friends this year for a very family-oriented event," said site manager Michelle Zupan. "Martin Martinez of Taos is a talented musician who has been interested in playing the Festival for a while and Moving Arts-Española has been performing here for a number of years and always bring a little something special to the Festival."

Attendees can purchase food from vendors such as Fusion Tacos, Vigilante Pizza, and LocCo Dogs. Local artisans and vendors will be present throughout the historic district. Visitors can also tour historic buildings on site and see farm animals including Navajo-Churro sheep, donkeys, and goats.

Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 16 or younger. Tickets can be purchased online at my.nmculture.org/44496/48788. Free admission is available to Tribal members, New Mexico disabled veterans, NM foster families, Museum of New Mexico Foundation members, Amigos of Los Luceros members, and DCA staff or their families at the visitor center.

Los Luceros Historic Site is situated on a 148-acre ranch north of Alcalde along the Río Grande. Its main building is a Territorial-style Hacienda with historical significance; other features include a 19th-century chapel (capilla), Victorian cottage, carriage house, guesthouse, and farmyard. More information about the site can be found at nmhistoricsites.org/los-luceros.
