New Mexico United has confirmed the transfer of forward Luiz Fernando to Hanoi Football Club, a team in Vietnam’s top division. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

“It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Luiz. In a short time, he captured the hearts of our fans and became an integral part of our team and our club,” said New Mexico United’s Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “However, in football, when opportunities like this arise, they must be respected — especially when it’s something the player truly wants to explore.

I want to thank Luiz for his time with us and for the effort he gave every single day. We wish him nothing but the best in this new chapter of his career.”

Luiz Fernando joined New Mexico United before the 2025 USL Championship season after three years with Memphis 901 FC, where he scored 15 goals and made 12 assists in 86 matches. In his stint with New Mexico United, Fernando played 1,207 minutes over 16 games—14 as a starter—scoring four goals and providing one assist.

The club expressed gratitude for Fernando's contributions during his time in Albuquerque and stated it will continue to follow his career as he moves on.

New Mexico United is set to play Louisville City FC at Lynn Family Stadium this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. MT. Fans can watch live coverage on New Mexico 50, KRQE.com, or ESPN+. Spanish-language coverage will be provided by Estrella TV (channel 7.2), while radio broadcasts are available via ESPN Radio 101.7 The Team.
