With the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science currently closed for renovations, its educators are taking natural history programs to the Albuquerque community. This fall, they will host a series of public events in Bernalillo County libraries and community spaces.

Stephanie Lukowski, Education Director at the museum, said, "Our Education team sees this as an opportunity to not only build on existing partnerships but also to explore new ways to help our communities learn about natural history and scientific inquiry in the spaces they’re already spending time." She expressed gratitude to all partners involved in this initiative.

Starting in September, various activities will be available for different age groups. For children aged 0 to 8, 'Dino Discoveries' will include reading from dinosaur-related books and interacting with fossils. Tweens aged 9 to 12 can experience virtual reality during 'Journey through the Solar System.' Teens aged 13-18 will engage in field journaling with live animal models. Adults can attend 'The Geological Story of the Albuquerque Area,' a lecture series by geologist Jayne Aubele.

Additionally, a portable planetarium system provided by The Albuquerque Astronomical Society will allow visitors ages three and up to explore the night sky. These programs will rotate across Metro Albuquerque libraries throughout fall and winter. Details are available at nmnaturalhistory.org.

Libraries interested in hosting these events can contact Stephanie Lukowski for availability.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is part of the Department of Cultural Affairs and supported by its Foundation. Since its establishment in 1986, it has aimed to preserve and interpret New Mexico's natural heritage through collections, research, exhibits, and educational programs.
