Gustave Baumann's legacy is being celebrated at the New Mexico Museum of Art and the New Mexico History Museum through a series of events titled "Baumannia." This initiative coincides with the Museum of Art’s retrospective exhibition, "Gustave Baumann: The Artist’s Environment," which explores his impact on art and culture.

Laura J. Mueller, Interim Executive Director at the New Mexico Museum of Art, described Baumann's work as "a love letter to New Mexico—its landscapes, cultures, and people." She invited the community to experience the state through Baumann's perspective.

The "Baumannia" series begins with a free event on August 16 at the Museum of Art. Activities include hands-on projects, an open house of archives, and guided tours. On August 27, Thomas Leech will give a talk about Baumann’s life and work. A larger event on September 28 will feature activities across both museums' Santa Fe Plaza campuses.

Billy G. Garrett, Executive Director at the New Mexico History Museum, highlighted the opportunity for attendees to expand their understanding of New Mexico history while enjoying various activities.

Baumann arrived in New Mexico in 1918 and became renowned for his woodblock prints. His diverse artistic contributions also included painting, sculpture, drawing, marionettes, and furniture.
