New Mexico United will play its 100th home game at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park this weekend, hosting Las Vegas Lights FC in a Western Conference matchup. The club returns after six weeks on the road and currently holds fifth place in the USL Championship Western Conference standings.
The two teams last met in March 2025 at The Lab, where New Mexico United won 3-2. Saturday’s match will also see several reunions, as Head Coach Dennis Sanchez, Assistant Coach Armando Quezada, and midfielders OuSman Jabang and Valentin Noël face their former club for the first time at home. Former New Mexico United players McKinze Gaines and Tony Herbert are set to return as well.
Forward Greg Hurst leads New Mexico United with four goals in eight appearances this season. Midfielder Mukwelle Akale has contributed five assists, making him the team’s leading playmaker.
Saturday marks a milestone as it is the 100th home game in the club’s history. Goalkeeper Alex Tambakis is close to breaking the all-time USL Championship regular season shutouts record; one more clean sheet would tie him for first place. Midfielder Sergio Rivas, an Albuquerque native, is nearing 10,000 regular season minutes played in the league.
Las Vegas Lights FC comes into the match ranked 12th in the conference. Forward Johnny Rodriguez leads their scoring with seven goals over 19 matches, while midfielder Gennaro Nigro has provided four assists. Goalkeeper Raiko Arozarena has kept seven clean sheets despite defensive challenges faced by his team.
After this match, New Mexico United will travel to play Louisville City FC on August 23 as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
