Dakota Spillers has been appointed as the Associate Athletic Director of Communications and Advancement at Western New Mexico University (WNMU) Athletics. Spillers previously held the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at WNMU before spending three years at Jessup University.
During his time at Jessup, Spillers was the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations. He contributed to various aspects of the athletics department, including administration, business management, game-day operations, sport oversight, and partnerships. He played a role in Jessup’s move to NCAA Division II and helped increase annual fundraising from $800,000 in fiscal year 2024 to over $1 million in fiscal year 2025. Spillers also assisted in starting support clubs such as 'The 6th Man Club' for men’s basketball and 'Dugout Club' for baseball, and he supported the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for student-athletes.
As a sports administrator at Jessup, Spillers oversaw men's soccer, men's and women's golf, and softball programs. His work focused on improving donor engagement and enhancing the experience for student-athletes.
Before his time at Jessup, Spillers managed communications for all 13 intercollegiate sports at WNMU. He led several initiatives including redesigning the university's athletics website (wnmumustangs.com), launching a mobile app for athletics, creating Mustang Radio to broadcast home events, and establishing a partnership with eTeamSponsor.
"I am incredibly excited to return to Western New Mexico University and serve in this new capacity," said Spillers. "WNMU and the Silver City community hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to advancing the Mustang brand, strengthening community connections, and continuing to create meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes."
Interim Athletic Director Matt Enriquez commented on Spillers’ return: "Dakota's track record of innovation, relationship-building, and strategic leadership makes him the perfect fit for this role. His passion for Mustang Athletics is unmatched, and we are thrilled to welcome him back to the team."
Spillers will return with his wife Ariana as they expect their first child in January 2026. They have two dogs named Tucker and Remington.
