Lobos' Anderson, Brown, Jenkins named to MW watch list; team picked seventh

Nicole Anderson, Kennedy Brown, and Fiona Jenkins have been named to the 2025 Mountain West Women’s Soccer Watch List. The University of New Mexico Lobos were ranked seventh in the Mountain West Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll, announced on Wednesday.

The poll, voted on by conference coaches, awarded the Lobos 80 points and two first-place votes. They are one of five teams to receive first-place votes. The Lobos will play three higher-ranked teams at home and will not face one of the top three teams.

Utah State was chosen as the preseason favorite with six first-place votes and 128 points. Boise State follows with three first-place votes and 121 points. Colorado State (111 points, one first-place vote) and San Diego State (109 points, one first-place vote) complete the top four. Grand Canyon is fifth with 93 points, while UNLV ranks sixth with 87 points. Below New Mexico are Wyoming (59), Nevada (55), Colorado College (54), Fresno State (50), Air Force (44), and San José State (23).

Anderson, Brown, and Jenkins are expected to lead their team this season. All three started all 18 matches last year for the Lobos. Anderson was the second-best goal scorer in 2024 with four goals. Jenkins played full matches in 12 out of 18 games, scoring her first collegiate goal and assist against conference opponents last season. Brown played full matches in seven games and also earned her first collegiate assist in 2024.

The Lobos return with a roster that includes 18 players from last season and nine new additions, consisting of 14 underclassmen and 13 upperclassmen.

New Mexico's season begins with an exhibition match against UTEP on Thursday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a regular-season opener against Texas Southern on Thursday, August 14 at the same time. Admission to all home matches for the season is free.
