New Mexico United will travel to face FC Tulsa this weekend in a key Western Conference match. The team is currently fifth in the USL Championship Western Conference standings after a recent defeat by Hartford Athletic. Midfielder Valentin Noël has quickly become an important player for New Mexico United, scoring off the bench in his debut and bringing energy and creativity to the midfield. Defender Jaylin Lindsey continues to be a reliable presence on defense, averaging 1.1 successful tackles and 1.3 interceptions per 90 minutes.
Goalkeeper Alex Tambakis is close to reaching two major milestones. He is two clean sheets away from setting the all-time record for most shutouts in USL Championship regular season history. A clean sheet against FC Tulsa would allow him to tie the current record held by Evan Newton. Tambakis is also about to enter the top ten for all-time minutes played in USL Championship history after Saturday’s match.
Sergio Rivas, an Albuquerque native, is nearing 10,000 regular season minutes played in the USL Championship, reflecting his consistent contributions to New Mexico United.
FC Tulsa sits at the top of the Western Conference and has been strong at home on ONEOK Field. Forward Taylor Calheira leads their offense with nine goals this season. Goalkeeper Johan Peñaranda has recorded four clean sheets and conceded only 18 goals so far.
After their visit to Tulsa, New Mexico United will return home to host Las Vegas Lights FC on August 16. This upcoming fixture will be significant as it marks New Mexico United’s 100th home game at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.
