Abraham Williams, a senior cornerback and kick returner for the University of New Mexico, has been named to Bruce Feldman’s 2025 College Football Freaks List, published by The Athletic. Williams is ranked No. 100 on the list, which highlights standout athletes in college football.
Williams transferred to New Mexico from Idaho and is recognized as the active leader in college football for 100-yard kickoff returns, with five to his name. He is one of two student-athletes from the Mountain West Conference featured on this year’s list; John Michael Gyllenborg of Wyoming appears at No. 54. Williams is also among 27 players selected from outside the Power Four conferences.
Feldman described Williams’ journey and athleticism: “Williams, a senior, began his college career at Weber State, where he was an FCS All-American. He then transferred to Idaho in 2024 before following head coach Jason Eck to New Mexico,. He only played in four games last year before suffering a season-ending injury. He did make six tackles in Idaho’s opener against Oregon. The 6-1, 186-pound Salt Lake City native is a very long, athletic corner who clocked 22.5 mph, vertical jumped 39 inches and broad jumped 10-5 this summer.”
Williams is expected to contribute significantly on defense and special teams for New Mexico during the upcoming season.
Fans are encouraged to attend games at University Stadium as ticket options have been expanded for greater affordability and accessibility for families.
