Carl Labitzke, a freshman from Berlin, Germany, will join the University of New Mexico men's tennis team for the 2025-26 season. Head coach Rob Bareford announced the addition, which brings the roster to nine student-athletes.
Labitzke has achieved a No. 124 ranking in Germany and holds an international ITF men's ranking of No. 2485. He has won three singles titles in Berlin at the U12, U14, and U16 levels and was previously ranked among the top 100 players in Europe for U16 competition. His highest overall European ranking reached No. 40, and he has been ranked within Germany's top ten each year from U12 through U18 categories.
Bareford said, “We are thrilled to welcome Carl to the Lobo family. He’s a strong lefty with the potential to become really, really good.”
Labitzke joins incoming transfers Nishant Dabas, Alberto Perez, Jakub Prachar, Jan Skerbatis, and Tyler Waddock on the team. Returning players include Dario Ciobotaru, Connor Dils, and Philip Bosin. The squad recently competed in the NCAA Tournament after finishing their previous season with a record of 16-9.
The team is set to participate in the ITA Kickoff Weekend scheduled for January 25-26, 2026 where they will compete against nationally ranked UCLA.
