The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced that the University of New Mexico's volleyball team has earned the Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 academic year. This marks the sixth consecutive year that New Mexico has received this recognition.
A total of 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams nationwide achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale, to qualify for the award. The UNM athletes recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.40 over the academic year and set a program record with a team GPA of 3.79 in the spring semester.
New Mexico is one of six Mountain West programs to meet these standards, alongside Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, UNLV, and Wyoming.
AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon commented on the achievement: "It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom." He added that more programs earning the Team Academic Award than ever before demonstrates coaches' commitment to their players' academic and athletic goals.
