John Block, a House Representative from New Mexico, said that defeating the Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) would result in tax hikes, border insecurity, and no progress on deficit reduction. The statement was made on the social media platform X.
"What some of these idiot grandstanding, self-righteous, self-serving, conniving, scumbag Congress members don't get is if they kill the BBB (the best thing we can get out of this current Congress in its current form - and it's great!!!), the American people get NOTHING except higher taxes, a less secure border, illegal aliens scamming billions from Medicaid, and absolutely no reduction in deficit spending," said Block, New Mexico State Representative for 51st District (R). "Primary challenges coming."
The BBB passed Congress by narrow margins in July 2025 after intense partisan debate. According to Reuters, Republicans supported the bill for its tax relief and stricter border policies, while Democrats criticized it for significant cuts to Medicaid and clean energy initiatives. They argued that these measures would increase deficits and harm vulnerable populations. The bill's approval in the Senate was by a vote of 51–50 and in the House by 218–214, highlighting deep political divisions.
If the BBB does not pass, the Congressional Budget Office projects that Americans could lose up to $3.7 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade. Middle-income families might also miss out on expanded child credits and new auto loan deductions. PBS analysis indicates that a $1,000 baby credit and other benefits would not be implemented, affecting millions of households.
Investors.com reports that previous bills of similar scope resulted in a 15% increase in border security funding, over $900 billion in reduced Medicaid expenditures, and a $3–4 trillion increase in national deficits over ten years. The BBB aligns with these trends by accelerating border spending, cutting Medicaid by approximately $930 billion, and raising deficits by $3.4 trillion.
